What to say? Is embarrassment really screwing up your washboard solo while being on TV? Or was it accepting to play a 1/2 hour set in a situation which was probably obviously sketchy had we stopped to think about it?
Neither one perhaps, and although both happened it was actually a fun concert to have done. Yet the best prepared plans always have a devious way of going astray and yesterday was no exception.
Shortly before going onstage, near the end of an interminable hour of official speech making through which I had to fight to keep my energy level in contact with the event – this was after over four hours of waiting since we had to be there early to be briefed – Dave said “I just better not break a guitar string!”.
So of course he did while playing his steel guitar during the first song, throwing our short but well prepared set into total disarray.
The public had patiently sat through the speeches too, so when the announcement of our band came simultaneously with that of the opening of the buffet who can blame them to have thrown themselves towards the latter…
More about this when I receive the video, then it very well may become a total embarrassment! For the moment I have the bliss of ignoring what was actually viewed by all – if any; would you spend a sunny Saturday afternoon in front of the TV?
