It snowed Tuesday, Wednesday and even a bit of Thursday.
Snow brings its own little story here as the city officials try and juggle between the town’s finances, keeping the streets usable and the growing wave of civil disobedience among car owners.
This is how it goes:
From November to the end of March it becomes illegal to park on most of the streets from 3 to 8 AM. This is to let the snow plows clear the streets so if there isn’t any snow, the law is not enforced.
There are also a few street here and there in which you can park that are closed to parking from 8 to 11AM, so when you park your car, you could think that you need to have a good idea of the weather forecast.
However that is worth what it’s worth, this week for instance the forecast pretty much announced possible snow but not in any quantity so in the long run people do what people do, meaning they look at what other folks are doing with their cars and do the same.
The fun can begin then since the snow plow drivers have a little tradition that they seem to enjoy: to pile as much snow as possible against the cars that are badly parked. The car owners shovel their car out in the morning, hopefully before they get a parking ticket or towed. Need I mention that they just move the snow that is necessary to get their car out, leaving a pile that more often than not turns to ice and pretty much prevents everyone else from using that parking space….
Fortunately the sun came out yesterday and today was even nicer without any clouds in the sky so I went out to enjoy a walk. In some areas the snow had beautiful surface textures sculpted by the wind.
