Electric Crawfish Blues?

The last few times Crawfish has gotten together to rehearse have mostly been to determine whether we could manage some decent electrified versions of a few of the songs we do, this for the xmas concert at La Case A Chocs in two weeks. For me it doesn’t change much, I just try and make my noise even louder but for Dave, playing electric guitar instead of acoustic will be a change.

Beer, Wine & Let The Lights Shine On Me

Last Friday we – Crawfish – played for a bar that was celebrating it’s first anniversary here in the city. They had closed off the street, put out tables and tents, got the BBQ going, invited some wine folks to present their wine, set up an outdoor bar and stuck a truck in front of it all in which we squeezed along with the DJ equipment.

Since the street was slightly slanted, the truck was too so we were all in a leaning forward kind of position that was funny. My little problem of the evening was keeping my foot from sliding up against the bass drum… But besides a guitar stand falling over the edge the setup went surprisingly well…

Blues Or Buffet?

What to say? Is embarrassment really screwing up your washboard solo while being on TV? Or was it accepting to play a 1/2 hour set in a situation which was probably obviously sketchy had we stopped to think about it?

Last night in France, oh la la!

Last night we went to play at the delightful little Devil’s bridge inn again. Depending on the crowd, each time is a very different experience. Yesterday’s was a group of friends who had reserved the placed, and hired us, for their yearly get together. A noisy assembly that had hired a bus to be driving to and from, enabling all to get merry, wild and plastered; a smart move. The French authorities have been very severe with drunken driving since the new law was passed about a year or two ago. This has made things a bit tougher for restaurants, the drink markup being the usual way to cover the meals expense and at first folks were thinking twice at going out for a meal. On the bright side there have been a lot less accidents due to drunken driving and it is also the reason that more and more establishment now have small bands for the evenings entertainment. They up the price and offer a concert. The only problem now is getting properly paid for playing, a free meal is nice but….
